The other aspect of the whole bear vs man thing that I would like to point out is intention. A bear couldn’t have the intention to do you harm for its own pleasure, gain, or desire; a man could.

This is your usual brilliance! I empathized with your traumatic experience and then laughed about the outrageous world we are living in where a self-driving car feels safer and then gets delayed by hecklers! Bravo. 🙌🏻

What a great piece. I've had my fair share of uber/cab scares, so my survival instinct says hell yeah to self-driving cars! On the other hand though, along with the point you made re. tech taking away jobs, I suppose self-driving cars would merely work as a bandaid, as the harassment episode in San Francisco seems to indicate.

I'll take all the bandaids I can get, and a semi-solution is a thousand times better than no solution, but at the end of the day this is a societal, behavioral issue that lingers. It pisses me off that self-driving cars would even need to be part of a solution to protect women from predatorial behavior while the predators roam freely.
