Loved this! I read something recently about teens who are deleting Spotify off their phones to really unplug and get comfortable being alone with their thoughts. It kind of inspired me because I'm constantly listening to something – music, podcasts – in the background of my life. Commuting, cleaning, working, exercise, etc. Audio content almost feels more all-encompassing than social media because it's always on.
I didn't think about the connection between those radio stations we listened to as children and podcasts we listen to as adults. Great article on breaking down the podcasts medium...
Great read!! Made me think of all of these TV rewatch podcasts with members of the casts; they’re often packed with three to four long ad breaks and provide only a few nuggets of trivia that you could likely find on imdb even as they purport to have the exclusive on each episode from the people who were there. With the exception of the Always Sunny one, I haven’t found any that feel like a real Show as opposed to a thing that exists as a revenue stream for actors out of work that the listener might have a personal connection to (thinking of the New Girl, Glee, Gilmore Girls and Scrubs shows specifically but there are dozens more). Which is fine, but I’m not going to listen to something out of pity alone. Sucks that this is considered a primary form of revenue for actors in this position when they really should be allowed to move on, but I’m sure it’s a good enough grift that no one wants to pass up the cash.
