Me reading the title: “who the fuck is Bob?” 😂 brilliant piece Madison! I especially love your examination of the bob in film and what it can represent for characters. The transition of Tashi’s hair from long, girly free flowing sensual locks to a sleek, no nonsense bob was probably the most effective imo, aided by zendaya’s impeccable performance of course. And what a great closing line!

I loved this!!! I cut my hair in a bob at 19 and have never looked back!! Now it just feels like my normal hair, but when I did it at 19 it felt very symbolic and transformative. Loved seeing all the bobs in television and film!

Another iconic bob for me is the one worn by Briony Tallis, throughout her life, in Atonement.

I love your writing!

Your reflections on the connection between ballet and hair were so resonant for me, I wonder if going to dance class from a young age left me with an intolerance for hair on my neck. I've had a bob throughout my life - it was the style my mom chose for me in Kindergarten, the dramatic haircut I got before graduating high school, and only after college did I consider growing it out. Can't wait for my next bob era, whenever she will emerge!

I felt the connection to ballet as well and that tight bun giving me headaches but the thought of hair on my beck or face was too much to bear. In fact when I quit ballet and started modern classes, I cut my hair. More of the Winona Ryder cut off my ponytail type bob, but symbolic nonetheless 🩵

I have been attempting to grow my hair for YEARS and it finally got long but it is just is so thin and sad. I've been through a lot the last 4 years and decided one day two weeks ago it was time to let go, cut five inches off my hair and honestly every time I've seen someone since they have mentioned I am glowing. I believe in the power of a haircut ✨

I honestly ENVY women who look good with bobs. I attempted it once in my life and that backfired traumatically.

I don’t think a bob would really jive with my hair texture :/ but maybe I’ll try it someday!

I chopped my hair a few years ago (like 5/6) and this spring my new hairstylist lovingly bullied me into cutting all my hair off. Full pixie and I went from girl next door to call me daddy so fast it was liberating
